De Gea’s long-term future has been uncertain for a while now, with his current deal expiring in 2020 after United triggered a 12-month extension clause in November.
The Spaniard has regularly been linked with a move away from the club in recent years, and United’s struggles under former boss Jose Mourinho are understood to have pushed him closer to the exit door due to a desire to win trophies.
However, De Gea has now decided that he would be willing to commit his long-term future to the club as long as he receives an offer of £300,000 per week including bonuses.
The 28-year-old currently earns £200,000 a week, but believes that his status as one of the world’s best goalkeepers is worth a significant pay rise if he is to extend his stay at Old Trafford.
De Gea produced one of his best United performances during Sunday’s 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur, making 11 saves in the second half alone to earn the Red Devils a crucial three points at Wembley.
